Monetizing Wellness with JH Life Insurance

jhbrandlogopms295My 2016 New Year’s resolution was to shed the holiday pounds and get back in the gym. I decided to kick it in gear by giving up alcohol for the month of January. This Lent, I gave up sweets.

Ok, so maybe that didn’t work out so well…

The point is, it’s good to set healthy goals. Wellness keeps us sharp. Why not live well and save money!

For those of you not in the know, John Hancock has a nifty little partnership with “Vitality.” Vitality

Similar to health insurance wellness programs, Vitality tracks your healthy habits and translates them into perks.

Fitbit-Charge-HR-blackHere’s how it works. Buy a JH policy with Vitality and you get a free Fitbit (though other trackers work too.) The program rewards points for a variety of different healthy activities and checkups. JH spots you a gold rate the first year. As you progress, you’ll receive notifications of updates and achievements.

There are four classes of rates:

Bronze  0–3,499 points
Silver  3,500–6,999 points
Gold  7,000–9,999 points
Platinum  10,000+ points

Counting steps are only a small part. Flu shot? 400 points.  Lose weight? 500 points. Didn’t smoke? 1,000 points. There are a gazillion ways to earn points.

My wholesaler made two things very clear:

  1. These levels are NOT hard to achieve. This is not Cross-Fit. You don’t have to belong to a gym to achieve.
  2. You don’t have to be tech-savvy. It’s automated and it’s easy.

Keep in mind that this isn’t just for small term policies. Vitality can  take those larger estate planning ULs from borderline to cutting-edge competitive.

For more information, check out this consumer site or this producer site. Remember to ask for Vitality on any and all JH quotes. Call me with questions!

Thanks and happy selling. Now put down that doughnut and get back on the treadmill.
